- Raymond Theodore Mathers, age 82 of Battle Creek, passed away, Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital. Raymond was born on March 31, 1933 in Imlay City, MI to Henry Theodore Mathers and Lottie (Kajcienski) Mathers. He lived in St. Clair Shores, MI until he entered the Army. He was a cook in the Army and everyone called him “Cookie”. After being honorably discharged he moved to Battle Creek where he spent the rest of his life. In 1970, he married Rosemary. He became a local baking legend while working at Allman's Pastry, most known for his delicious desserts, especially his bismarcks. Raymond was a very giving person and he loved children, they would run to him when he entered the room.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary Mathers, two brothers, Leo Mathers and Albert Mathers, two sisters, Roseann Gallatin and Arlene Mathers. Raymond is survived by his step-son William Hooper of Battle Creek, and one sister Leona (Husband Harold) Glancy of Imlay City, MI.Full military honors will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Battle Creek, MI.
