GREENE - Funeral services for Blanche L. Mather Crooks, 90, formerly of 702 Riverview Drive, Greene, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Greene with Pastor Ashok Patet officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, also in Greene.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Reid's Funeral Chapel, 519 North First Street, in Greene. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services on Tuesday.
Blanche Louise Beguelin was born May 27, 1914, in Clayton, Mo., a daughter of Alfred E. And Emma L. (Mange) Beguelin, and died Friday (March 4, 2005) at the Liebe Care Center in Greene where she had been a resident since August 1994.
She was raised on a farm southwest of Greene, and attended Bennezette Township School No. 6, and graduated from the Greene High School in 1932. She attended normal training classes and taught country school for several years.
On May 27, 1935, she was united in marriage to Eldred Charles Mather at the home of her parents. They farmed together in the Marble Rock and Greene area until retiring in 1971. During this time, Blanche also worked at the Greene Cafe and was librarian for sixteen years.
Eldred Mather died on April 4, 1972.
She was united in marriage to Samuel L. Crooks on June 9, 1994, at the United Methodist Church in Greene. He preceded her in death on June 23, 1999.
Blanche had many talents and enjoyed painting, needle work, quilting, gardening, and growing and sharing flowers with family and friends.
Living family members include two sons: Paul (Loan) Mather of Fort Washington, Md., and Duane (Rose) Mather of Janesville; one daughter, Marjorie (Neal) O'Brien of Greene; four step children: Ronald (Beverly) Crooks of LaPorte City, Barbara (Robert) Lee of Rochester, Minn., Ruth (Allan) Jacobson, and Joan (Harold) Meyer, both of Greene; twin brothers: Francis (Lavonne) Beguelin of Bristow, and Howard (Vada) Beguelin of Estacada, Ore.; one brother-in-law, Ralph (Eugenia) Mather of Crockett, Texas; 11 grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; and numerous great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; parents; a sister and a brother-in-law, Doris and Harry Ipsen; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Mehlan.
