- ST. PAUL EVANGELICAL (and Reformed) CHURCH [Evangelical] 1848
Organized Oct. 23, 1848, first pastor Rev. Adolph Baltzer, first services were in a rented house.. In 1850 they built their first home, a frame structure at 1808 S. 9th (at Lafayette) and dedicated Feb. 17,1850. This building was sold to a Slovak Roman Catholic congregation in 1924. A new church was built on this site in 1874 and destroyed by the tornado of 1896, but replaced in 1897. The current structure, their fourth, was built in 1931 at 3510 Giles (at Potomac St.). Designed by Hoener, Baum & Froese, and dedicated May 15, 1932. Became UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST in 1957. [2003]
In 1890 the congregation purchased land for a cemetery at Kingshighway and Gravois which served the congregation till 1925 when they acquired 122 acres at Rock Hill & Watson Rd. The remains (10,000) were moved to this cemetery, known as 'St. Paul's Churchyard'
